October 17, 2005 — Serono S.A.

Swiss corporation, Serono S.A. has agreed to pay $704 Million to settle claims which were the subject of qui tam actions filed by several of its former employees. The employees claimed that Serono engaged in a conspiracy to increase the marketing and sale of its drug Serotism. The allegations included, among other things, that Serono offered physicians all-expense-paid trips to France, in return for the doctors writing up to 30 prescriptions for Serotism, which costs $21,000 per course of treatment.

As part of the settlement, the employees will receive $51.8 Million for having filed the qui tam claims.
